SA37517

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/37517/

DESCRIPTION:
Nikolaos Rangos has discovered a vulnerability in FreeBSD, which can
be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to the "_rtld()" function in
libexec/rtld-elf/rtld.c not correctly clearing certain dangerous
environment variables before executing suid root processes, which can
be exploited to execute arbitrary code with root privileges.

The vulnerability is reported in version 7.1 and also confirmed in
version 8.0.

SOLUTION:
The vendor has released a preliminary patch.
